At 10:30 local time (14:30 GMT) on Saturday 19 May, the four remaining Global Ocean Race (GOR) Class40s from the original fleet of six boats crossed the start line in Charleston, South Carolina, and set off on the 3,600-mile Leg 5 to the finish line in Les Sables d’Olonne, France.

The Kiwi-Australian duo of Conrad Colman and Scott Cavanough took first place in Global Ocean Race (GOR) Leg 4 from Punta del Este, Uruguay, to South Carolina with Akilaria RC2 Class40 Cessna Citation, crossing the finish line off Charleston at 05:45:00 GMT (01:54:00 local) on Tuesday morning. Colman and Cavanough took 28 days 11 hours and 45 minutes to complete the 5,700 miles from Uruguay to Charleston.

The start of the Solidaire du Chocolat, on the 11th March in Saint-Nazaire, marked the beginning of Class40’s 2012 season. The General Meeting, held in February, made François Angoulvant President, and the partially renewed board got to work straight away: new changes to the class rules, reflections on the Global Ocean Race and organisational requirements for the Class’ next double-handed transatlantic race.
