The Massilia Offshore Cup Trophée duo Max got underway on Sunday, June 23, 2024, in the harbor of Marseille, under sunny skies and a steady mistral tramontane wind.
Mikael Mergui (Centrakor): "Conditions are shaping up to be really rough, especially over the first 12 hours. We'll be setting off under spinnaker towards the islands of Menorca, where we'll have to find the right tempo to sail fast, very fast, but also to avoid breaking everything! The first leg to Barcelona promises to be very fast and intense, with big waves due to the black Mistral wind which has been blowing for the past few days. The sea is very rough, which will add an extra challenge and put a strain on our bodies. We're going to have to be extremely vigilant and focused."
The original plan was to reach Barcelona via the Balearic Islands, but in order to avoid a calm zone to the south of Mallorca, the Race Direction and the Race Committee have announced a change of course to the competitors.
After passing through the Minorca gate, they will head straight for the finish line in Barcelona.
