The season is off to a flying start for the Class40 boats from Manche-Atlantique: 20 boats will be taking part in the Spi Ouest France BPGO, a first for this event, which will offer them an adapted program, with two days of coastal racing and a 24-ho
Among the skippers present will be Corentin Douguet (E.Leclerc), who will be accompanied by a prestigious team including Axel Tréhin, Yoann Richomme (recent 2nd in the Vendée Globe and two-time winner of the Route du Rhum in Class40), Thomas Coville (skipper of the Sodebo Ultim trimaran) and Rodrigue Cabaz, former member of the French Olympic team, who confided on his networks: “It's a huge honor for me to be on the score sheet, worthy of a Real Madrid team."
Clarisse Crémer : “I'm delighted to be sailing with my friend Pep in his first Class40 competition. More personally, this spinnaker is an opportunity to sail as a crew after a demanding Vendée Globe.” Gaston Morvan, meanwhile, says he's very happy to be sailing with Pep Costa “The program is great with a beautiful course, the field will be tough with well-honed sailors, it promises to be intense.” Pablo Santurde Del Arco, a regular on the Class40 podium, completes the VSF Sports crew.
Aboard Les Invincibles, skippered by William Mathelin-Moreaux and Pietro Luciani, a solid crew including Pierre Brasseur (winner of the Transat Jacques Vabre with Yannick Bestaven), Matthieu Vincent and Benjamin Ferré. The public will also have the pleasure of seeing two major ocean racing figures, Vincent Riou and Michel Desjoyeaux, now competing in Class40. In an interview with Voiles et Voiliers magazine, Michel Desjoyeaux expressed his enthusiasm: “It's been 15 years since I took part in the Spi Ouest-France. It's going to be great to get back to the atmosphere, the crowded channel, all those boats on the water. With so much Class40 competition, it's going to be interesting and give me an idea of the forces at play before I get my new boat soon.”
The duo of Achille Nebout and Gildas Mahé will also be present, accompanied for the occasion by Jean Marre and Ronan Floch (Amarris). Pierre Le Roy (winner of the Mini-Transat in 2021) will be sailing alongside Guillaume L'Hostis (Alternative Sailing - Construction du Belon). The pairing of Cédric Chateau and Guillaume Pirouelle will also be on board (Sogestran-Seafrigo). Maxime Paul and Tanguy Leglatin will be on board (Pierreval-Fondation GoodPlanet); Thierry Chabagny, Sam Manuard and Pierre Loic Berthet will all be aboard Bleu Blanc Planète Location alongside Quentin Le Nabour.
Also taking part are Free Dom from Reunion, newcomer Nicolas Lemarchand (Weeecycling), and the Gustave Roussy project made up of a crew of medical students and members of the Contre Vents et Cancers team.
