This edition of the Massilia Cup Offshore was a real spectacle, with eight Class40s taking part in a round trip between Marseilles and Macinaggio (Corsica). Despite particularly unstable weather conditions and a capricious wind.
A strategic first leg
From the start in Marseilles, the weather conditions set the tone with little wind, calm seas and hesitant skies. In accordance with the instructions, the race committee approved an intermediate ranking at the Giraglia crossing to compensate for the persistent light airs. It was against this demanding backdrop that Aurélien Ducroz and his co-skipper pulled out all the stops to claim victory on the first leg.
A high-voltage second leg
The return to Marseille proved even trickier. Between light winds oscillating between 0 and 15 knots, intense heat and ineffective routing, the sailors had to be lucid, adaptable and cool-headed. "The conditions were so unstable that we could have lost patience. There was no reliable routing until the finish. It was a real fight to the finish." Aurélien Ducroz, skipper of Class40 Crosscall.
Behind Crosscall, there was an intense battle to complete the podium. Edgard Vincens and Louis Toreilles' Fraise.org took second place, followed by Aquamarin, skippered by Chris Kerl and Luis Brito, in third.
