As envisioned by its founder, Michel Etevenon, the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe, as it is officially known for the 2026 edition, has been the "Transatlantic Race of Freedom" since its creation in 1978. It remains the only major transatlantic race to bring together monohulls and multihulls, compact offshore racers and the giants of ocean racing, on the same start line and over the same course.

Held every four years, the Route du Rhum is a single-handed transatlantic race. The 2026 edition brings together the following classes and categories: Ultim, IMOCA, Ocean Fifty, Class40, Vintage Mono, and Vintage Multi.

A collection of individual adventures, often years in the making, the Route du Rhum is never entered by chance. Sailors come in search of something unique—an exceptional challenge, unforgettable emotions, and the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.

Forty-nine Class40 yachts are entered in this 12th edition.
